F.A.Q.
What is VoIP?
VoIP is a category of hardware and software that enables people to use the Internet as the transmission medium for telephone calls by sending voice data in packets using IP rather than by traditional circuit transmissions of the PSTN. VoIP is usually much less expensive than PSTN.
VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol and it refers to the diffusion of voice traffic over internet-based networks. VoIP is widely used to cut the cost of traditional PSTN and some of its major benefits are:
* More than one phone call on same line.
* Advance features, such as call forwarding, caller ID or automatic redialing, are simple and usually free.
* Communications can be secured with encryption
What is BioVoIP?
PBX stands for Private Branch Exchange. BioVoIP is our implementation of PBX – taken to a next level. BioVoIP users share a number of outside lines for making external phone calls. Local calls, between the users, are available as well.
BioVoIP is a hosted PBX solution featuring a range of traditional telephony and emerging VoIP technologies. The creation of national/global voice networks and a full range of PSTN and VOIP technologies are supported. BioVoIP features least cost routing, voicemail, ACD queues, IVR auto attendants, conferences, music on hold and much more – a real cost saving solution in a fully featured PBX package! Some of the advanced features included are auto updates, system backup, web interface, call recordings, and real time call monitoring.
BioVoIP offers many additional features, such as:
* Ring groups
* Conferences
* Interactive Voice Reponses
* Queues
* Voicemail boxes
* Realtime monitorring
* Call recordings
* and much more…
How does a BioVoIP system work?
BioVoIP consists of one or more SIP/VoIP phones connecting to your hosted PBX. Clients and software or hardware based phones register with the BioVoIP server and may then establish connections to make calls. BioVoIP has a directory of all phones/users and their corresponding address and is able to connect an internal call or route an external call via either a VoIP gateway or a VoIP service provider.
How good is VoIP sound quality?
- The quality achieved is excellent. We use the G729 audio codec which is not very bandwidth intensive thus ensuring good quality on even low bandwidth connections. i.e. mobile connections . VoIP is normally latency sensitive and we don’t recommend using VoIP on a connection with more than 100ms latency. For low latency bandwidth options please refer to our Fibre options.
Will my telephone bills reduce if I use VoIP comparing to PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network)?
Yes. VoIP features will rapidly reduce your business telephone costs. Your telephone bill reduction can be as much as 65%.
